Corteo-May 3, 2006

Robin told Steve and to keep Wednesday night open for a "Mystery Date". We were told where to meet and at what time, but that was it. After work, Robin and I went for a drink and appetizers to an adorable french bistro around grand central while we waited for Steve to finish work. After a bottle of delicious wine and an amazing cheese platter, we started off on our surprise. We were told to go the 4 or 5 heading North. Steve and kept trying to think where she would be taking us: Harlem? Bronx? Queens? Metro North? We had no idea. After a few stops, Robin said to get off at 125th Street. We were in Harlem. Were we going to dinner somewhere in Harlem? Was she trying to get us killed, what??? She took us to the bus stop and the bus said "Randalls Island". We figured out where we were going, Randalls Island, but why???

We got to Randalls Island and off in the distance we saw Circus tents. "Are we going to the circus? We're going to the circus", we thought. Well, we were close. Robin took us to the latest Cirque de Soleil show, Corteo! Here's Steve in front of the tents.

We entered the tents and worked our way to the food. There's nothing better than hot dogs, popcorn and pop to munch on while watching a show.

We worked our way to our seats. We had the best seats just a few rows up from the stage. I wasn't sure if we could take pictures or not, so I took one of us three in anticipation for the show to start....it's a good thing I didn't try and take one mid show because no cameras were allowed inside the tent. Oops.

The show was absolutely AMAZING! There were: angels flying in air, people jumping on & off beds, people spinning inside hoops, jugglers juggling hoops and other things, tight rope walkers, little people doing tricks inside a spinning hoop, women being thrown off the trapize while twirling in mid flight, men bouncing on a trampoline stretched out across the stage, two people flying in air with just the man holding onto the rope with just his mouth (my personal favorite); and several men flipping off of multiple bars. Wow. There was a lot! And did I mention the little woman attached to several balloons who was being bounced around by the audiance? Yup, there was that too! Talk about a great show.

Thank you so much Robin! This was the BEST MYSTERY DATE EVER!!!
