Munich, the city--September 30, 2006

After getting our bearings, we decided to take a few hours and walk around old town. After dropping off the car, the walk was clearly welcome. Below are a few pictures we took of the area, not entirely sure what all of them are, and same to say they’re only a small portion of the sights in the area.

Frauen Platz

Marien-Platz

National Theatre

Max Jozef Platz

Grabbed a bite to eat at a local joint, which was most notable because it allowed me to break out the conversational German for the first time since the 10th Grade. Ein Schnitzel und Ein Lebekasse bitte. Drei Euro Zwanzig. Vielen Dank. Oh yeah, who’s the man. And the fried chicken breakfast was a nice bonus.

Off to the proper campground, where we know we can get running water and a toilet. Figuring we were headed to the worlds largest kegger, we figured we were going to need bathrooms of some sort. But before heading down to Thalkirchen (imagine a campground built between the Boston Common and Charles River – very cool), we had to make a brief stop at Oscar Leder.

Steve in his Laderhosen and Jaren in her dress.

All morning we had seen people walking around in traditional dress. And we’re not talking a few people scattered around the platz, were talking about one in five people had some form of lederhosen, dresses, capes, boots and assorted other clothing that at one point had a pulse. Far be it from we not to take the proverbial costume bull by the horns.
